Many people simply throw away leftovers because they are not sure what they should do with them. Way #1 - Use Up Those Fruit Peels
You may have never realized it, but there are many great things you can do with fruit peels. Before throwing out orange, lemon, apple, or even lime peels, think twice. You can use them in several different ways. One great idea is to use the peels from citrus into the garbage disposal. The acids not only clean the disposal for you, but you will get a nice scent as well. Another option is to collect the zest of rinds and freeze it. Zest can be used to flavor desserts, it has required for some recipes, and it can be put into olive oil or vodka to give it some flavor. Apple peelings can be used for a tasty dessert. Simply add some sugar and cinnamon and then bake for a nice dessert that tastes wonderful with a bit of ice cream.
Way #2 - Make Use of Veggie Scraps
Another way that you can make use of leftovers and save some money is to make sure you use up your veggie scraps. Collect leftovers when you chop veggies like celery, carrots, onions, or other vegetables and then store them in the freezer. They can be used to create a vegetable stock or added to other dishes. Stuffing meats with veggie scraps can add some great flavor as well, so do not throw these scraps away.
Way #3 - Do not Throw Out the Nut Shells
More than likely, you simply throw away nut shells that you have. Start saving them and using them instead of throwing them out. Nuts can be used to grill with. Throw shells on top of the coals in your grill, which will add some flavor to the foods that you are grilling. Another option is to grind up any shells you have and then sprinkle them in the garden. Since the edges are rust, they will keep caterpillars, slugs, and other pets away from the plants in your garden.
Way #4 - Save Those Sweet and Tasty Crumbs
Do not throw away any sweet and tasty crumbs either. Whenever you have crumbs or any leftovers from brownies, cakes, pies, cookies, or other sweet treats, collect them up and then put them in a bag so you can freeze them. Next time you serve ice cream, get out the crumbs, and use them to top your ice cream. They also make sweet toppings that will be great on top of yogurt as well.
